Neuromechanical Control of Paddle Juggling
نویسندگان
چکیده
The objective of this research is to discover the rules by which the human nervous system controls the cyclic task of paddle juggling. The existence of separate feedforward and feedback control signals is hypothesized, and the feedforward control system is completely identified using tools from dynamical systems theory. Using this knowledge progress is made in identifying the feedback control system, with some interesting findings. The author believes that the data analysis methods in this work are novel and can be applied in the study of other hybrid dynamical cyclic tasks such as walking and running. Primary Reader: Noah J. Paddle Juggling by Robot Manipulator with Visual Servo
Juggling is a typical example to represent dexterous tasks of humans. There are many kinds of juggling, e.g., the ball juggling and club juggling in Fig. 1. Other kinds are the toss juggling, bouncing juggling, wall juggling, wall juggling, box juggling, devil sticks, contact juggling and so on. These days, readers can watch movies of these juggling in the website youtube and must be surprised ...
متن کاملOne-Handed Juggling: A Dynamical Approach to a Rhythmic Movement Task.
The skill of rhythmically juggling a ball on a racket was investigated from the viewpoint of nonlinear dynamics. The difference equations that model the dynamical system were analyzed by means of local and nonlocal stability analyses. These analyses showed that the task dynamics offer an economical juggling pattern that is stable even for open-loop actuator motion. For this pattern, two types o...
متن کاملHaptic feedback enhances rhythmic motor control by reducing variability, not improving convergence rate.
Stability and performance during rhythmic motor behaviors such as locomotion are critical for survival across taxa: falling down would bode well for neither cheetah nor gazelle. Little is known about how haptic feedback, particularly during discrete events such as the heel-strike event during walking, enhances rhythmic behavior. To determine the effect of haptic cues on rhythmic motor performan...
متن کاملPhase Regulation of Decentralized Cyclic Robotic Systems
We address the problem of coupling cyclic robotic tasks to produce a specified coordinated behavior. Such coordination tasks are common in robotics, appearing in applications like walking, hopping, running, juggling and factory automation. In this paper we introduce a general methodology for designing controllers for such settings. We introduce a class of dynamical systems defined over n-dimens...
متن کاملVariability , Symmetry , and Dynamics in Human
How humans and other animals control rhythmic behaviors, and locomotion in particular, is one of the grand challenges of neuroscience and biomechanics. And yet remarkably few studies address the fundamental control-systems modeling of locomotor control. This thesis attempts to address several pieces of this grand challenge through the development of experimental, theoretical, and computational ...
